Sofia kouznetsova

  • Accredited social worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

  • Skilled individual and relationship counsellor

  • Founder of Sofia Kouznetsova Counselling

Over the course of my career, I have provided mental health and counselling services to diverse clientele across the lifespan, including adolescents, adults, couples, and families. My professional experiences spans roles at reputable not-for-profit organisations like headspace and Relationships Australia WA, work in a residential aged care setting, as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) clinician, and in private practice.

Therapeutic Modalities

In addition to my practical experience, I have undertaken extensive professional development, including training in therapeutic modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Narrative Therapy. I have also completed level 1 and 2 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. As an integrative therapist practicing from a holistic perspective, I draw upon a wide range of evidence-based approaches and methods to tailor my approach to each client's unique needs.

Practice Philosophy

Central to my practice is a commitment to compassionate, inclusive, and affirming care. My mission is to cultivate a nurturing environment for personal growth and healing, empowering individuals to foster healthier and more fulfilling relationships. I am particularly passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients, drawing on a combination of professional knowledge and lived experience in my work.

Professional Interests

I have a strong focus on supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, especially in the area of relationship counselling, and enjoy working with clients exploring consensual non-traditional relationship structures such as polyamory and ethical non-monogamy (ENM). I also have special interest in working with adults with undiagnosed or late-diagnosed ADHD and/or Autism. I am especially passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients to explore their intersecting identities, unmask, and live more authentically.

why choose me

My Lived Experience and Unique Perspective as a Social Worker

As a social worker offering counselling services, I bring a unique perspective to therapy, drawing from my deep understanding of social determinants of health and human behaviour. My expertise lies in providing holistic support that considers the broader societal influences on mental wellbeing. In addition to this, my own lived experience informs my practice, allowing me to empathise with clients on a personal level and understand the challenges they may be facing.

Unfortunately, one of my own early experiences with counselling as a teenager was highly negative. ... I became disillusioned with the idea of therapy and did not seek help again until much later in life. ... However, this experience became a catalyst for me pursuing social work as a profession and has deeply informed the core values of my private practice.
